Dogs and Cats Take Over Bakery!

The bakery looks pretty normal from the outside on this rainy Saturday...however, when the door is flung open wide, the aroma of coffee and freshly baked bread wafts out, it becomes clear that something different has happened inside!

Colorful, active, sleepy, bright, sly, wet, playful dogs and cats cover the walls and windows! Artists Kelly Saxton and Jennifer Hanson breathe life into all these wonderful four-legged creatures. What a treat to admire the diverse expressions on the faces of each animal while you are having lunch!

Kelly lives with a crazy array of flora and fauna and exhibits locally, nationally, and internationally mixed media landscapes and animal portraits. Her art background includes an MFA from Pratt Institute and more work can be viewed on her website at ksaxton.com

Jennifer is a glass mosaic recycle artist using old windows from barns, scrap stained glass and grout to create her fantastically detailed and lively portraits. Her biggest inspiration comes from her 6 year old daughter Cordelia Blue and you can find more about her life and work on her website shatteredportraits.com.

The Perfect Art Show for Planting Season!

Come see Cecelia Nunn Haack's beautiful color pencil artwork depicting, in brilliant color, the love of earth, plants and garden life. Currently showing at the Bakery through June, a perfect time to find inspiration for your own garden love!

Cecelia says simply that making art makes her happy, however when pressed to describe her work further, here is what she had to say:

"My art is greatly influenced by the natural world. Inspiration comes from my garden and wild places where nature is untamed. I have created a series of colored pencil paintings vegetables that include the soil, because except for soil scientists our soils receive very little attention. As a gardener, I relish the earthy fragrance of freshly exposed soil. I love the way tiny seeds become luscious vegetables in only a few weeks. For me, there is nothing more joyful than harvesting a fresh carrot or beet.

I am passionate about my flower garden and that is reflected in the floral colored pencil paintings. I find the textures, color and scents in my garden to be an utter delight. I hope you find some pleasure in my paintings."

Stop by and view Cecelia's joyful show during regular Houlton Bakery hours, Tuesday - Saturday, 9 am - 4 pm.
